Work to expand, resurface and pave the parking lot at Kona Community Hospital began July 15.

The project is aimed at improving parking access and safety for hospital staff, patients, visitors and the community.

It is part of critical infrastructure improvements for the Kona hospital funded by the Hawai‘i Legislature and Hawai‘i Gov. Josh Green through the Risk of Closure Capital Improvement Project.

Work is expected to continue through mid-October.

Parking is still available at the hospital during the project, but patients and visitors should expect to be rerouted to different parking areas as work continues.

Additional parking is also available at the old courthouse lot just below the hospital for anyone who chooses to use it.

Traffic control personnel is on-site as needed to help direct vehicles and ensure safe and efficient access to the hospital.
