Alexander (Zander) Neuhaus was a funny, smart and happy boy who played (and watched) a lot of sports. He had a huge smile and loved to tell corny jokes. Zander was 10-1/2 when he passed away unexpectedly from a cerebral hemorrhage. He touched countless people with his humor, kindness and empathy in his short, yet rich, life.
As a student in New York City’s Lower Lab school, Zander’s favorite pastimes included reading books, playing video games and quoting sports statistics. However it was through team sports that Zander learned the importance of intense effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
It is the mission of the Zander Fund to create athletic opportunities that would otherwise
not be available to deserving youths, so they can learn the lessons and experience the
joy of team sports — just like Zander.
Creating the Zander Fund in Zander’s memory is a fitting way to remember Zander because it memorializes his love and respect for his teammates and friends, while at the same time helping children that most certainly would have been his
friends.
